The annual New Hampshire Professional Photographers Association (NHPPA) was held April 24th-27th and included a print competition that was open to all active members of NHPPA or any other Professional Photographers of America (PPA) affiliate organization. Entrants were allowed to submit up to 5 images. This year, 193 images were presented to a juror panel of very distinguished and highly qualified Master Photographers, including the President of PPA. Needless to say, it was a tough panel of judges. Only 48 images (less than 25%) earned the coveted Blue Ribbon, and only 8 images scored higher than a Blue Ribbon.
This image was captured in the Gjovik Olympic Cavern Hall while traveling in Norway. I used a fisheye lens in order to capture the rather large scene and the result is the visual abstract you see here. Only minor "digital darkroom" enhancements were made to the original image. I will say that it aroused the interest and curiosity of the judges who called it back 2 additional times after its initial judging in order to discuss it more and eventually all vote to award it a Blue Ribbon Merit. :-) Nikon D300. 10.5 f/2.8 Fisheye Lens.
