The annual New Hampshire Professional Photographers Association (NHPPA) was held April 24th-27th and included a print competition that was open to all active members of NHPPA or any other Professional Photographers of America (PPA) affiliate organization. Entrants were allowed to submit up to 5 images. This year, 193 images were presented to a juror panel of very distinguished and highly qualified Master Photographers, including the President of PPA. Needless to say, it was a tough panel of judges. Only 48 images (less than 25%) earned the coveted Blue Ribbon, and only 8 images scored higher than a Blue Ribbon.
I captured the Beach Inferno image at Sand Beach in Acadia National Park, shortly after sunrise. The receding tide had left many ripples and lines in the sand, but these particular ones caught the attention of my creative eye as they looked like flames dancing about. The low angle sun highlighted the texture and gave it a warm golden glow. Nikon D700. 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. ISO 200. f/16. 1/60 sec.
